Parish Holiday 2005

After a long coach ride and overnight stop in France we arrived high up in the mountains to our beautiful hotel in Leissigen surrounded by snow capped mountains, meadows full of wonderful flowers and overlooking Thunersee Lake.

We woke up to the sound of cow bells and wonderful views over the lake. The sunsets were so very beautiful. We had a week full of fun and sightseeing, pushed up the mountain by train to the thick snow, had snow ball fights yet the sun was so hot that factor 30+ sun lotion was needed.

We went over lakes by boat and walked through a deep gorge cut out by Water! We had a barbeque and walked seven miles home up 189 steps. I didn’t think that I could walk that far but four year old Jazmin did every step of the way.

There were giant chess boards everywhere for the use of the public. Everywhere was so very clean. We saw a water wheel working providing electricity up to the mountains, and goats wandering all very friendly –as were the people we met!

We saw waterfalls, walked through miles of meadows filled with flowers of all the colours and cow’s with their bells ringing day and night yet lovely to hear.

The Christian hotel was top class, clean, friendly and with wonderful food.

The holiday went all too fast and we arrived back at St. Philip’s on the 5th June having had a wonderful holiday. Many thanks to Elizabeth and Edie who arranged it all, and just to say “can we do it AGAIN”!!

Travelling to Switzerland was fun because we went on a ferry but except for that we travelled on a coach. In France the temperature was 36c, it was very hot, but it was worth it because Switzerland is beautiful. The views from our rooms were wonderful.

Every day there was full of things to do, like shopping and swimming. We travelled up mountains and had snow fights. We went on walks including walking up 180 steps. Outside the hotel we played mini golf. We stayed in Switzerland for five days. It was a holiday I will never forget. It was a great experience.
