The Astley Memorial

The Astley Memorial, now at the west end of the church, consists of has two tiers of four figures placed in pairs, the lower two the full size of life, the upper two somewhat smaller. These last represent John Astley, master of the jewel office in Queen Elizabeth I time, and Margaret, his wife. The lower pair of figures are those of Sir John Astley, only son of John Astley and Catherine Bridges his wife. Underneath them, on a marble slab supported by pillars are the escutcheon and crest of the deceased couple sculptured in marble.
